Whether spring is in the air on your block, or frigid weather has visions of spring only appearing in your dreams, spring is on its way. It's time to prepare.

Winter often leaves its mark, branding us with dull, dry skin, a sallow complexion, added pounds, and a touch of joint pain. Bored with scratchy, woolen clothing and clunky boots, spring fever is now epidemic. Spring fever turns our thoughts to sultry swimsuits and pastel sundresses. But before we can step into our favorite fashions or start packing for out spring break getaway, a visit to the spa is in order.

Spa Skin Solutions

For glowing skin, exfoliation treatments are essential for sloughing off less than lively skin cells. Salt scrubs rich in salts from the dead sea are some of the best treatments available. Other options for glowing skin include body wraps, facials, foot treatments, and mud baths. Spas worldwide also have signature facial and body treatments with specialized plant ingredients that polish, smoothe, and soften weary skin. Invigorating treatments, such as those based in rosemary or mint, also boost circulation and bring out a rosy glow.

The Bindi Herbal Body Treatment at the Emerson Resort and Spa in Mount Tremper New York relies on herbs such as cardamom to purify the skin along with sesame oil and coconut milk to soothe irritation and combat dryness.

The La Petite Retreat Day Spa in Los Angeles recommends a Sugar Rush Scrub to revitalize skin. With a blend of sugar and essential oils of citrus, mango and vanilla, the sugar rush exfoliates and hydrates the skin while improving circulation and relaxing deep muscles.

La Petite also offers an Ionic Detoxing Foot Bath that stimulates the pores of the feet to release toxins. With the added benefit of reflexology, the foot bath not only leaves feet soft and glowing, it rebalances the lymphatic circulation and offers benefits for individuals with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, edema, and insomnia. A foot bath followed by a pedicure with a light coral polish is the perfect touch for stepping out into the spring night.

Home Scrubs and Treatments

  • Sabon makes a heaven-scented lavender apple body scrub with essential oils that polish and soften the skin while leaving a luscious hint of fragrance.

Hydrotherapy and Massage

Whether you’re starting a new exercise program or stepping up the pace on your usual activities, hydrotherapy sessions and massage can relax muscles and joints and help you meet your fitness goals. Regular massage can also help lengthen and tone muscles and increase the range of mobility. Check with your local spa for yoga classes, exercise classes, martial arts classes, and classes on nutrition.

With glowing skin, relaxed muscles, and a bounce in your step, you'll be more than ready for the arrival of spring.
